MEET THE TEAM: STUART 'ANALYSE THIS' DUFF

The focus of today's Meet the Team feature is regular Tiger Stuart 'Analyse This' Duff.

Stu' is possibly the most cheerful member of the team, a decent all-round cricketer and genuine top bloke. Be careful what you say and how you behave around him though. He's a head-doctor and he'll be analysing your every action. That's something most of us Tigers could do without!

So Stu', lay back on the couch and tell me about your childhood ...

Name: Stuart Duff

Date of birth: 10.10.1967 – the very same day that the Outer Space Treaty came into force. Fact.

Where were you born? The not so beautiful Welwyn-Garden-City, home to Nick Faldo and Mick Taylor, once of the Rolling Stones. Fact.

How do you earn a living mate? I am a psychologist. So while you’re reading this, I am actually reading your mind. It’s a gift.

What do you do cricket-wise, Stu? Right Slow Bat, Slow/Medium Wides (Bloggers note: that's RHB, RFM)

Who is your favourite cricket team? The West Indies team of 1980-1989, eh? Lads such as Lloydy, Greenwichy, Haynesey, Richardsey, Marshalley and of course Holdingey. Cricket genius. They don’t make teams like that anymore, eh?

You're right there. That was an awesome team.

Who is your favourite cricketer? Straussey. I like his music too.

Jeez! Did Andrew Strauss really compose The Blue Danube? No. I was playing on the fact that they both had the same surname. Do you find yourself missing irony often, Baz?

Errr. errrr. Let's get back to me asking questions. What's your earliest cricketing memory? Summer holiday, indoors, curtains closed, mum’s hoovering. It’s 1981 and Bob Willis is steaming in on a warm summer’s afternoon at Headingly for an eight-fer to win the third test of the Ashes...

What's the best and worst cricket grounds you've ever played at?
Best? Clifton College – a beautiful ground in front of the most magnificent old great hall. Out for a duck.
Worst? Chipping Sodbury common – bumpy, lumpy and covered in cows**t. Great for bowling.

Do you have a favourite fielding position? Anywhere that requires lightening quick reactions and nerves of steel. And yet for some reason I m often put out on the boundary at long leg or 3rd man. Clearly my own evaluation of my capabilities doesn’t quite stack up with my cricketing colleagues...

What's your favourite other sport?  Football. Favourite sport full stop. Playing, watching, living, breathing.

Are you any good at it?  No, though I am definitely what you would call a ‘trier’. (Bloggers note: What is it with you blokes? I've played footie with Stu' and he IS good)

Which sport do you find most boring?  Apart from horse racing, I can pretty much watch anything. I did once spend a week staying up late every night to watch crown green bowling. I reckon if they put the Dutch Canal Jumping Championship on Sky I would give it a go.
Who is your all-time sporting hero?  Shane Warne. A fine role model to us all.
What's the strangest or funniest thing you've ever seen on the cricket field?  I’m not sure if it was actually on a cricket field, but it has to be the Grain/Newton-Grain trio modelling this year’s new Tigers’ kit. All three clearly missed a great vocation working for Kay’s catalogues...
You can have four people, past or present, round to dinner. Who would they be and why? Leonardo DaVinci, probably one of the most remarkably talented men to have ever existed. Jesus of Nazareth, as I’m genuinely intrigued to find out what really happened, and he can bring the wine. Lady GaGa, as she can bring the meat course music in the interval.   And Shane Warne of course, a good old fashioned all round wit and bon-viveur.
You've got £100 to spend. What do you buy?  That’s very generous thanks. If GaGa brings the steaks and Jesus brings the wine, then I’ll use the cash for chips and a decent pudding for Warney. If there’s anything left then I’ll put it in the pot for Barry’s Tiger Feet walk of madness (http://www.justgiving.com/Tiger-Feet). Thanks Stu'. That's brilliant mate. Can you get this straight jacket off me now please?
